CONTENT WARNING: THIS SHOW IS SUGGESTED FOR AGES 14 & UP
This is a show about High Schoolers for High Schoolers. It’s for anyone who has ever felt like a loser or struggled to fit in. This show is for A LOT of people- but it might not be for everyone.
This show uses some strong language, references intimacy and sexual situations, references substance use, references self-harm and suicidal ideation. While it topically mentions some awkward things hormonal and desperate-to-be-cool teens think and talk about, it’s not the SUBJECT of the show. This show is about social pressure and identity, the myth of what we can control, while at the same time not infantilizing the characters or treating the audience as ignorant. It doesn’t label these things as what teenagers SHOULD be doing. And it’s not instructing them HOW. But just like how students hear about these things in the locker bay, hallway, cafeteria, Netflix, the CW, tiktok, YouTube, they are definitely aware of these conversations happening around them, if not having them themselves. It does validate and show the emotional and social struggles of growing up and students DO identify with the feelings of the characters – where in a world where kids are struggling to feel seen, that affirmation is important.
WHY THIS SHOW: Many of our RTC students discovered and identified with this show while in middle school and have loved it since. Drama students have waited patiently for 22 months, watching sports teams return and waiting still, to return to doing what they love. We didn’t just choose a show to do- we chose a show they loved and deserved.
