Blue Stockings

November 13-21

Set in 1896, Jessica Swale’s Blue Stockings tracks four ambitious young women at Cambridge’s Girton College as they challenge the Victorian establishment for the right to graduate with formal degrees. Battling fierce chauvinism, public ridicule, and institutional hostility from male scholars and peers, Tess Moffat and her fellow students are forced to constantly weigh their intellectual passions against family obligations, social ostracization, and romantic relationships. The play builds toward a crucial university vote on degree equality, delivering a compelling narrative about the courage, personal costs, and tenacity required of the early trailblazers who fought for women's right to higher education.

Mark Harvey Levine's Save Hamlet! is a fast-paced, meta-theatrical comedic spoof that completely upends Shakespeare’s classic tragedy into an empowering, slapstick farce. Realizing that the original narrative is heading toward a bloodbath, a group of quick-thinking, resourceful women—disguised as Traditionally male characters like Bernardo, Francisco, Marcellus, and Horatio—decide to intervene to rewrite the story and keep the body count at zero. Armed with sharp wit, pop-culture references, and slapstick substitutes like pool noodles for weapons, the disguised heroines sabotage Claudius’s treacherous plots, manage an angsty Prince Hamlet, and take charge of their own destinies to save literature’s most doomed prince from his famous tragic fate.

Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Jr. follows young Charlie Bucket, a kindhearted boy living in poverty who defies all odds to win a rare Golden Ticket to tour Willy Wonka’s world-famous, highly secretive chocolate factory. Accompanied by his enthusiastic Grandpa Joe, Charlie joins four excessively spoiled children—Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregarde, Veruca Salt, and Mike Teavee—for a walkthrough guided by the eccentric chocolatier himself. As the group travels through fantastical rooms filled with chocolate rivers, experimental candies, and singing Oompa-Loompas, each misbehaving child succumbs to their own greedy vices and faces unexpected consequences. Ultimately, Charlie’s honesty, humility, and pure imagination shine through, leaving him as the last child standing and leading to a life-changing surprise from Mr. Wonka.
